Same Cage/Different Snakes

Ryuen05 Jan 29, 2005 11:05 PM

I was wondering wheter it was ok to house different species of snakes together. I have recently asked someone who worked at a pet store if it was ok and they said it would be fine. I just wanted to make sure if I could do this to save money on buying different tanks. I have a ball python, colombian boa and a brazilian rainbow that are all juveniles and are being kept in the same 20G long with numerous hide logs and different branches. They seem fine as is but I just wanted to make sure.

pet store people are in the business to sell. so they house several species together to save on room. plus it seems they hire people who know nothing on reptiles. the snakes you mentioned have different needs. it may not seem like it now but as they get bigger they will need their own space.

also if you've just gotten them all they should be going through a quaranteen period so you can watch for stress, not eating, mites, etc.

i am by no means an expert. i have 6 snakes of my own and they all have their own space. better be safe then sorry in the long run. just my 2 cents worth.

That is a bad idea.

.......of the stupid advice you can get at a pet store. Sometimes it is plain ignorance. Sometimes a simple push to get you to buy another snake. No. NO. NO! Don't do it. :D
