Mystery Toads (need help with ID)

Lyn Jan 30, 2005 06:38 PM

Hello, I went in to pick up supplies at my local store and happened upon a tank marked "assorted toads". I tt the manager and she said she ordered a specific type of toad (she didn't remember what kind) but instead, they shipped her a container marked "assorted" so she wasn't really sure what they were. One of the girls there had a suspicion on a couple of them, and in looking at online photos I think she is right. I don't want to say what she thought and taint your own opinions. I was assured that none of them were American Toads. I have an American Toad and they do not look like him, so I was at least able to rule that out. I'll post some photos and if you could share with me your thoughts that would be great. I'll keep searching Toad sites on my own too in hopes of figuring it out.

For the following photos they were only flipped (or held) long enough to take the photo and then immediately put right side up again. Now that I have the photos I'll never flip them like that again. Just thought their bellies and feet might help with the ID to find out what they are so I'm sure I'm caring properly for them.

The following shots are just to show you their size. I do not normally play with or handle them.

Toad #1 for size comparison, this one is the largest one

Toad #3 for size comparison

Toad #4 for size comparison This one is much smaller than the others and has shorter legs

Thank you. I believe you are probably right on that one. I looked up Fowlers and they have not spots on their bellies. Toad #4 is the only one with no spots. Plus the glands are set hight on his head like a Fowlers. Any suggestions on the other 3 by any chance?
