Waxy Monkey Tree Frog Ques

lilWaz282 Jan 30, 2005 09:46 PM

I've owned a pair of Waxy's since May 2004. When I purchased them, they were very good eaters no matter what time if day I put in the crickets. For the past month they have not been eating very well. In fact, I hear the crickets in their tank every morning, and then I clean them out later in the day. They have been in the same 20 gal tall tank since I got them. They have reptile carpet, with a large knoted branch inside with plastic plants and vines around it. They have a small waterfall and a water dish for soaking also. They have a day and night bulbs on timers, and the tank is about 75-80 degrees during the day with a basking temp of 90. At night it is a little colder, but not a lot. I've tried wax worms and meal worms, but most of the time I find them dried up under the carpet or at the bottom of the tank. The Waxy's do not appear in bad body condition yet, but I am concerned. Are they hibernating? What should I do? THanks, and sorry for the long thread.

They are probably just resting due to the shorter daylight hours of winter. 3 weeks of this will not harm healthy frogs. If you are not sure, increase daylight hours and elevate temps slightly until normal behaviors begin.
