I have a great plains toad since last year in a tank with a peat filling. he's in with bufo bufo and two bufo viridis. there is a heat mat under one corner and they are in an unheated shed. I never see him for months on end as he's always buried. if I dig him up to change the peat he's as lively as can
be and eats straight away. If I turn off the heat in spring will he spend more time up. Is it the heat keeping him down or the cold on the surface? What sorts of stimuli will keep him up?
