Looking for some winter advice

euryale Jan 31, 2005 11:27 AM

I have a 3years old mali that I have had for a little over 2 years.... He is so great... I know that in the winter time uros can start to sleep more and everything and I understand that. but this year it is differnt. My little does not even want to come out at all. I have tryed all his fav. food and even pick up some extra worms. When I do find him out and check on him he is staying cold. He will not stay our of his log long enough to warm up. Does anyone know of a vet in texas that would be able to look at him...?

try that link. that is how i found my vet in san diego. you can also call any vet and they can usually tell you one in the area.
i have had a male collared lizard do the same thing to me, he just kind of brumated himself and all i could do is wait for spring. hopefully your guy is just tired and there is nothing wrong

I have an egyptian microlepis uromastyx. He goes into brumation every winter and hardly eats a thing. And he rarely comes out from under his rock. In fact, yesterday I happened to notice he was out and was quite surprised. By the time I had some peas in for him to eat, he'd already returned to the haven of his rock. Today I looked in on him, and don't think he ate a thing. Here in the Northwest, they usually start coming out again and eating in mid February.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it unless you see a major weight loss. But if you're losing sleep over it, you might check out Doug Dix's website and maybe call him. He's a uromastyx expert.

Here's a link to his site http://www.deerfernfarms.com/Uromastyx_Mali.htm

Good luck,
