Need help with Stubby 2 light...

stevenxowens792 Jan 31, 2005 12:45 PM

I am having issues with my stubby 2 light. It sometimes will power on the bulb. Other time it flickers and will not come on.
If you touch the bulb with the power source on it starts to light up a little bit. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I have taken the light completely apart and checked the connections. What type of bulb is that little bulb? Phillips has tons of those little lights.. I tried one that was 13 watts and 4100k light. It didn't work out. Not even sometimes.
Where are the starters at for those lights. I saw the ballast. Does it need to be replaced maybe...?

Anyway, I appreciate any assistance you can give.

Thanks,

Steven Owens

have you tried other batteries or directly into your car

I have tried other batteries. Not straight into the car. Lance reproduced the problem at his house as well.

Thanks Tank,

Steven

Steve, There is a little voltage regulator inside on the little circuit board. It will have three leads. You can cross reference the number on it at radio shack. What happens is (and I speak from direct experience with the larger wand lights) is the solder joints become cracked and or the leads break off from all the waving around and usage that we snake collectors put them through. I have replaced many and soldered many. I think this may be your problem. Check it out. See ya. Let me know something.

Thanks Wayne!

I appreciate the information and I will take it apart again tomorrow to see if a new regulator works...

Hope all is well. I got some new lights for the CRV this year so It is going to look like a burning star going down the road. Seriously, If I miss something it will only be because my fat A$$ isn't getting out of the CRV fast enough to catch it.

Can't wait until it starts warming up down south. Have you heard from coach at all? I got a Christmas card but I wish he would call or something. I had his cell number but I can't find it. I got a new cell phone so I need to email it out soon.

Well take care and thanks again.

But if the light stays on for more than 4 hours seek immediate electrical help.

I love the levitra commercials. They show that MILF that says "If your looking for that long lasting relationship".

I ordered a new stubby from brady tools. Should be here at the beginning of next week. I will get a cheap one also from home depot as a backup. I was watching the River Road DVD. Larry Briggs is hilarious...
Larry> "I will never ever buy a hunting license".
Next day, "I bought a hunting license and they dropped the ticket".

Looking forward to this season... I will start working on the covers for the fog lights tonight.

Thanks for your support,

Steven

It's probably the bulb. I've had one go on me and it did the same thing. The bulb you bought as a replacement will work, but you need to cut off the very bottom of the plastic housing on the base with a fine saw blade and cut out the resistor that's inside. The bulb that's already in your light will give you a clue as to how to accomplish this. Compare the two bulbs side-by-side and you'll see what I mean. If you have any questions just ask!

Thanks for the response. Do they sell a replacement bulb that
fits without modification? Lance took the light home and tried his bulb in it and it did the same thing...

Again I appreciate the help. If anyone knows the actual model of replacement light that would help tremendously. I tried to find it on the net but I only find places that sell the bulbs in large quantities. It would be nice to just go to home depot for replacement that snaps right in without modification.

Take Care,

Yes Steven, I bealive that I have the information that you are seeking . I got a new Stubby Lite ll for Xmas from the wife and in the box low and behold I was able to find the compleat parts list. Now I think the numbers apply just General MFG. INC. in Bluffton IN.whear my wife got my lite from so I will give you both the number that they use for ording from them and the info off the box of one of the extra batters that my wife thoughtfully got for me at the same time. First the # if ordering from General Mfg. and that # is 5000-2003 and the info to use in the event that you planning on trying to find the bulb localy : the box that I have Says "Philips"at the top 13w # 41 are in a red box under that box in large white block letters are the letters PL-S . So hopefully that should do it for you. Oh yea here is the compleat address for GENERAL MFG. INC. . . . . .1100 South Morgan Street Bluffton, IN 46714. I have talked at length with thair sales dept.guy Brandon Shadle and found him to be both very helpful well as very nice. In the event that a new bulb does not solve your problem. His # is 260-824-3440 . Well good luck I"ll probally see you out on 277 or the river road some time this summer Cory

Thanks Cory. I appreciate all the numbers. As a back up plan I went ahead last week and ordered a new stubby from Brady's tools.
http://store.yahoo.com/bradystools/ligfluor2012.html

It looks like a stubby 2 in the picture but the part number may indicate a stubby 1. Either way it is fine with me. I will contact General MFG to see what they think is wrong with my stubby 2. Again I appreciate all the help.

Look forward to getting out west soon.
