Do you have to probe a ball to sex it?

Chameleon996 Jan 31, 2005 02:51 PM

My new one is 4 feet long and has a very short tail ( only a couple of inches). Can they be sexed this way?

With ball pythons you really can't tell sex by tail length or spur size. The most reliable way is to have it probed.

Go to the SnakeKeeper website and order their probing video. Its very informative and buy a nice probing kit. This is how you can accurately determine their sex. Tail length and spur size is inacurate. You could also cool them and find out that way. Males will combat ussually and females will do nothing as a rule and male and females will copulate but this method is time consuming and not 100% accurate.
