Herbivore monitor

Ali-baba Jan 31, 2005 06:33 PM

I know a guy who's sister is planning on giving me her monitor, but he doesn't know anything about it except that is a strict herbivore and is 4.5ft long. Any clues on what kind it may be? I want to know as much about the species before I start talking with her about it.

there are none that are herbivores, or ominvores.... some will eat them, but its not to good for them, they wernt ment to be veggie eaters.. i could be missing out tho but im pretty sure im right.

After speaking with my friend more I have come to the conclusion that it is an Iguana that his sister has.

the grays monitor from indonesea is almost a strick herbivor
its very endangered, a ch baby now-a-days cost up to $6000. try to get some pics so someone can identify it. or it could be a yong black throat( some of them like fruit alot). or it may not be a monitor but a tegu(probly an argintine black&white tegu)(NIETHER THE BLACK THROAT OR TEGU ARE STRICT HERBIVORS) just get some pics that way we can give an exact ID.
hope this helps

Actually the Gray's monitor is native to the Philippines not Indo. Oily fruits apparently make up a significant amount of it's diet, however I don't think it is "almost a strict herbivore".
Thanks,
Neal

Although it eats a considerable amount of fruit in its diet, it also consumes plenty of snails.

How do you get monitor confused with iguana? lol.. Good-luck on what you get, if you're sure it's an iguana.. might be a rabbit? j/k

The guy said 'my sister has a vegetarian monitor she wants to give you' so I got onto kingsnake.com and asked what vegetarian montiors there were. When he mentioned that it has spines I realized that it was an iguana. I'll be getting her tomorrow btw.
