About 10 - 12 hours. I would leave the light on all day and turn it off at night. In the summertime, you can just let the ig soak up some rays outside.

I keep mine under UVB as long as I have his basking light on. He seems to be basking more that I've put it up there, dunno why.

Well, I have noticed a huge difference in my iguanas behaviour since i have been handleing him more. he is very calm. i have the basking light and the uvb light side by side and he sits about 3-5 inches away from them under a screened top..

I turn the light on for my iguana at like 3 in the afternoon because thats when i get home and i leave it on until about 11-12 o' clock at night. And he is out of his cage for about 1-2 hours a days sometimes like 30 minutes.. But usually more. That is okay right? just checking.. he is a juvi iggy too..

You might want to leave it on a little longer than that if you can. Like set the UVB on a timer. For a juvenile, I would turn the UVB on in the morning and leave it on until nighttime. Basking lights are a different thing, because they have to be monitored. Those can be left on during the day just as long as the temp doesn't go over 95. Some people have said that it can go up to 98, but when my iguana was a juvie, he never wanted to stay in his cage when it got that hot.

What I do is turn my UVB and basking light on when I get up in the morning and ready for class, i keep my infrared on 24/7. I make sure it doesn't have anything in the way and it's about 5 inches away from the top of the cage so it's not going to burn anything or anything. I turn mine off around 7pm-9pm. Depending on how long the daylight is. I do this for all my animals, They all have basking/UVB. Some don't need it but it won't harm them so I do it anyways. I make sure everyday they have at LEAST 12 hours of basking/UVB.

With my gecko, all he needs is a basking lamp, and I always leave that on except at night when I have the infared light on. My iguana is a different story though. His basking/UVB light setup is attached to a speaker stand which is set about a foot away from his cat tree. It goes on at 8am and stays on until about 9pm, sometimes later. The speaker stand it's on is almost impossible to knock over the way it's setup, so we keep it on even when we're not home. My ig is free to go as he pleases, but usually only leaves to go to the bathroom or to eat. He's a lazy boy. When he was caged though, we did keep the lights just above his tank and they were on almost all the time, with a special heat sensor that would turn the basking lamp off if it went over a certain temp.

I would definately havce the lights on longer than that. Why dont you turn them on until 3? If you arent around in the morning to turn them on then i would set them up on a timer so your ig gets a full 10-12hours of light a day

Tor038505 Feb 02, 2005 11:29 PM

i don't see why you would need a timer but they have some at LOWES, home depot, wal-mart, k-mart. Pretty much anywhere.

You can get light timers anywhere. They cost like $5 at Walmart. They look like a dial that you plug into the wall, and then the light plugs into that. You just set the dial for the time you want the light to go and go off.
