Florescent Lights...

Doug89 Jan 31, 2005 07:45 PM

Hey guys! I was designing a cage for a small garter snake i was planning on getting, i am building it out of chipboard and had a question. I want there to be a florescent (or regular) light in the top so that you can easily find the snake in the dark. The only problem is i wanted a really thin, smaller one, just big enough to light the cage not provide heat or anything. Thanks so much, any suggestiopns will be greatly appreciated!

If that's all you need, just go to wal-mart and they have some smaller lights, but it all depends on the size of your cage.

Home depot sells very small under cabinet lights which would work perfectly for your situation i believe.

Sorry for not clarifying that. I was going to build a cage for a little wild garter i planned on catching, maybe 8-12" from bottom to top. Thanks!

Gearters are cheap, I can't strongly urge you enough to buy yourself a captive bred one. Also, do you have any other snakes? If so there are a lot of dangers bringing a wild caught garter into a pre-existing collection.

No i dont have any other snakes. I wanted to get a wild one because my mom probably wouldn't like the idea of me getting a snake but if i came home with one i caught i could talk her into it. Secondly after i get a wild one i was thinking of buying like a red-sided or flame too. Once my mom sees that i can handle one. Thanks!

I really think thats the wrong way about getting a snake... but if you do get one, get a baby one. they will be much easier to tame, but if you cant get it to feed let it go!
