BREEDING AND SELLING...

twilightfade212 Jan 31, 2005 08:37 PM

From what I've seen from past posts it seems that to breed and sell an animal, you need a permit. Is that right? If so, how does that work. If anyone knows what the requirements are, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

It depends on what you are breeding and/or selling, and in which state you live. Your best bet would be to contact your state wildlife department (Department of Natural Resources {DNR}, Game and Inland Fisheries, DEC, or some go by another name) and your county/city animal control to learn the details for your area. Just an FYI, often the animal control won't know about native species, and the DNR won't know about city or county regulations, so you have to call both.

some states allow the breeding/selling of non-native species with or without permits. Some states only allow the selling of permitted native species to other holding permitted people ( Missouri is one that i know of ). Some states allows you to breed but not sell within that state. Some states can't keep up with on line selling whether it's legal or not ( not saying one should do anything illegal here ! ). Probably not only check out the previous poster's suggestion but maybe a herp society in your state if you have one or a breeder or a wholeseller.

This will be in the state of Texas. What would be needed for non native species (like ball pythons) and native species (like kingsnakes and such)? Any ideas? Thanks to you both.
