Goin on Vacation ... Need Advice

melon88 Jan 31, 2005 08:41 PM

This is the first time we will be leaving since the little guy came to stay. How long can he be left alone? I could take him to the local pet store were they can watch him. But I'm concerned about it getting mixed up other undesirables, like mites.

How long were you planning on being gone? Truth is, if it's been fed recently and you leave water for it to drink, it will be fine for a couple weeks at least.

Thanks, just going to be gone six days. Planed on adjusting his feeding schedule so that he eats just before we leave.

That's the neat thing about reptiles in general, They don't need to be fed two or three times a day. So planning around their schedule is pretty simple, unless of course, you have many that need to be fed a different times. Even then, a few days one side or the other of their schedule won't cause any real harm. I think keeping the heat regulated is more important than a feeding schedule, unless you're power feeding, and to me that's unnecessary.

Thanks for the help. We are new to snakes and this place has provided a great deal of helpfull information. And the little guy has benifited alot from it!

not sure how you heat or light your cages, but I set mine on timers. Never fails one of mine will go into shed when I go on vacation, so I just have a friend come over and spray them when I think they will shed. If you are in LA, I think there is a girl who does reptile sitting. But it should be fine while you are gone.

Didn't think about the possibility of a shed. He just shed so hopefully will be OK there. If he does however, it won't be hard to get someone to give him a spritz!
