Eyelash Viper (Sony DSC-W1)

jcostell Jan 31, 2005 08:45 PM

Hi.

Here's a shot of my Eyelash viper. I like the DSC-W1. It's basically a fancy point-and-shoot, but it has a wider range of manual controls than most cameras of its type. Plus, it has a huge LCD and awesome battery life with the included rechargables.

Let me know what you think, and I always appreciate advice on how to make it better!

The tongue's yellow with orange splotches.

Very nice. Suggestion; live plants. They always work wonders compared to silk/plastic plants in photos.

It was a really spur-of-the-moment shoot. I had just gotten the camera, and I decided to pull him out of the cage. I don't know if you have arboreals or not, but he's definitely easier to take out branch and all, rather than try to extract him alone. I just set him and the branch on my bed and started shooting. I'll definitely get some shots on a live plant if I can find one. I think we have a schefflera around here somewhere...

Nice color and well composed shots.

Ditto the statement about the fake plants. They ruin closeups.

You ought to try and make sure that the eye is in sharp focus. Your two shots have the eye just a little out of focus and that really takes some of the "life" out of the photo. You might try increasing your depth of field a little if the snake is moving so you can get the eye in focus.

I would agree with the previous replies about silk plants detracts, great composition, focus is a little off. However, nice composition and less-than-perfect focus can make for some pretty nice prints with a little "artsy" modification using a photo editor, if you're in to that sort of thing. I modified your pic a few times to illustrate my point. I think some of these would make cool wall prints at 8x10" or so.

Let me know if anyone minds me mucking around with their photos like this and I'll ask ahead of time before doing it to illustrate points I'm trying to get across.

Nice eyelash, BTW.

Cheers,
WK
