"Snowball" is in shed, and my son wanted to hold him. I said, "O.K, if he rattles, don't grab him." He normally rattles if pissed, but never hisses. Heard it today-left him alone. this snake is normally a pussycat. Hold him all the time. This Pit is becoming my favorite snake.

You should hear my snake room when I'm cleaning pituophis cages. The pines are the loudest, I think. Very distinct hiss. Its great when I have repair people over.

Sometimes my bullsnake gets a little shy while eating and when I stuck my arm in her cage, she spit out her rat and gave me her first nice hiss and a nose jabs at the glass as well! She calmed down a minute later and finished her rat too. I really cannot imagine a big adult giving it their best....

if an adult gets mad, it's like someone "stuck a knife into a truck tire!" I believe it!

that noise from a large adult is startling and absolutely hair raising especially if you're not expecting it! i'd also liken it to steam escaping from a heat pipe. even though i [shoulda] knew better, the 1rst time i was blasted, i actually turned a bit to see where 'that' noise was coming from!!! it's very, very impressive indeed!

wonderful isn't it? For me, that attitude, with all the hissing, is something I adore in Pines! My wife commented the other day that I seem to love animals with attitudes, I have hissing pines, hognose, and Amazon Tree Boas.. That I sure seem to love attitude.... I just turned to her, and smiled...and said...now you know why I married you... Damn good thing I was out of striking range when I said it...phew...he he he...
