It looks to he that he/she has just retained an eye cap. Take a paper towl and soak it in warm water then place it over his eye. restrain him/her if you need to. let it sit on there for 10-20 min. then gently, rub the eye, front to back with the paper towl. It should come right off. If not, keep the paper towl on there longer. let me know if this helps

Tim, isn't a papertowel a bit too abrasive for the eye?

Get a pillowcase.. Dampen it with luke warm water.. Put the snake in it and then set the tied shut damp (not soaking) pillowcase into the enclosure.. Leave him/her in it for an hour or so, then open it up and check to see if it is removed.. The texture of the pillowcase plus the added humidity should loosen it right up. Plus you are not stuck restraining the animal forcefully..

Good luck..

maybe i didnt make myself clear enough. so i will state it again. i TOOK him to the VET, and the vet said after 30 minutes of poking and prodding that it was DEFINITELY NOT a retained eyecap.

Maybe I was not clear enough for you. My question was if the vet checked out the eye and told you it is not a retained eye cap. What did the vet say is the problem with the eye? I wonder why you would ask for opinions and post a pic if you already have had your snake examined by a vet. I would think you should be telling us what the problem is.

pythonis Feb 03, 2005 12:48 PM

the vet said that it looks like either an eye injury or a an optical condtion (glaucoma or something) and to bring him back in for further testing. problem is i cant really afford to bring him back in constantly so i was hoping that someone out there has seen this and knows what it is is or possibly even a vet that reads the forums so i can bring him back in and say "a vet online said it was so and so" and hopefully save money instead of spending an arm and a leg.

I assume that you examined the shed and the eyecaps were there.

pythonis Feb 02, 2005 12:20 AM

yes, both eyecaps were there. and as far as him reacting to objects on that side, i havent really waved my hand near his head to find out. but as far as something that is room temp (like a stick or rolled up newspaper) then no he doesnt react at all.
