Getting ready for the eggs!

eve_scotland Feb 01, 2005 07:10 AM

Hi there! I have had my leo's (2 females and 1 male) for over a year and a half now, the females have been in my large viv (2 1/2 ft X 1 1/2 ft) and my male in a 10 gallon. One of the females Trinity i am unaware of her age as i "rescued" her from a pet store in horrible conditions but she is very dark in comparason to my other two - could this be due to age?, Oracle (yes you see where i am going with this my Gecko's have aquired their names from the matrix :0) was just a baby when i got her she is a year and a half now, my male Neo (surprise) has been in the tank with my females for 2 months now and 3 weeks ago my Oracle laid - sadly on the viv tiles and it was too late for the little eggs, but she looks to be gravid again and as before the laying box is in her tank because she is looking very big - any ideas on how 2 coax her to lay in the box? Also this is my first time breeding - just purchased a hovobator - any hints on maximum efficency very much appreciated!

congrats on your first breeeding season, it'll be fun :D

you can use a 6 quart container(if it will fit in the tank) filled with about 2 inches of moist bed-a-beast/eco-earth or sphagnum peat moss, put a hole on top that is big enough for the female to get in and out of, also, you may want to remove the male if he is still in with her as he may cause her some unnecessary stress wich may cause egg binding or a really nervous female, if you are using any kind of terrarium moss in the lay box i would switch, they dont like digging in it all that much,..plus she is a first time breeder, IMHO if th female lays the eggs outside the lay box this means the eggs are duds anyway..which is normal for a first timer

as for the incubator, get it to a temp you want and keep it in a temperature controlled room if you can, if the temps in the room fluctuate..so withh the incubator
