I am thinking of purchasing a Varanus prasinus sometime in the near future and want a CB one. Anyone know of a place or person that I can get a nice healthy baby or of any one that is in the process of breeding a pair.
Thanks

Haven't they only been captive bred in Europe? I could be wrong.

There are chameleons, pythons, and monitors in my jungle room.
To the best of my knowledge, there is nobody breeding V. prasinus with any regularity, where CB offspring is ever offered for sale.
The closest thing you'll get to CB are the babies that are being hatched over in Indonesia, and then shipped over here. While they are younger, and will probably settle into captivity much quicker and easier than WC adults, they still come with the same potential health complications, with dehydration being the most important factor.. The importation process is very stressful on animals, and can be quite damaging on such a tiny, frail animal. Something to keep in mind.
There is a gentleman named Mike who occasionally gets Indo Hatched babies, and from what I have seen and heard, his animals are well cared for and in good condition.
It does seem that the Europeans, primarily the Germans and Dutch are seeing much better success at breeding V. prasinus than keepers here in the US. But then again, generally speaking, there is a different standard, or logic of thinking in regarding reptilian husbandry as opposed to the common 'standards' used here in the US.
The Europeans have been breeding monitors for several decades now, long before it became popular here in the United States. Many european breeders have experienced much more success with several species than most zoos and private keepers here in the US. They seem to have one up on the US when regarding certain species, primarily Varanus prasinus type animals.
Cheers, I hope this helps a little bit,
Take care, have a wonderful day,
Bob
