Need temps up in tank.

Michelle1010 Feb 01, 2005 10:10 AM

I am expecting our geckos tomorrow but I cannot get the tanks to get past 80 degrees. I am using a UTH and a 60 watt red light. I have a UTH that is 5 watt and one that is a Zoo Med 8 watt. I haven't used the 8 watt since it says not to put on the bottom of the tank if using papertowels, too hot for their bellies. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I take the 8 watt UTH back and get the 5 watt from another store?

Im assuming you have a glass tank? Have you tried blocking a portion of the top to keep heat in? If not, put something over the top above the light.

What size tank is it? You may find a slightly higher wattage bulb will do all the difference you need. a 75 or possibly a 100

Thank you to everyone that replied. It turns out that I have crappy Fluker's terrarium gauges for both 10 gallon tanks. I used my snake's Zoo Med thermometer and the temps were correct.
