Tim Ricks and others with white side brooks...

daveb Feb 01, 2005 12:46 PM

Hey guys-
I acquired three white sides last year from two separate breeders. Fantastic little buggers, great feeders and all, but I have noticed something different as of late- their pupils have turned red- all three animals, too. Anyone else witness this with their WS brooks? Two are normal white sides, one is axanthic white side, I am not aware of any albino or other influence in any of the specimens. Your opinion(s) based upon experience with the genetics of this line would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave Boyle

any pigment? I would seem that if the lack of pigment on the sides extends above the eyes they would also lack pigment.

i don't have a White-sided as yet but all the white-sided brooksi i've seen have had ruby red eyes. not red like in the albino cali king but a ruby color like that in the lavender albino brooksi or the x-treme hypo hondurans.

Hope that helps

Hi Dave, the eyes of hatchling WS brooks appear to look like the eyes of N.E.axanthics in my opinion. As they grow you can notice the pupils being a dark ruby red.I have created double and triple het combinations with the White Sideds being bred to Axanthics,Hypos,Lav. Albinos and Lav. Snows. All hatchlings from these breedings are normal colored. So there is no other color genetic mutation that influences the W.S. trait.Tim Ricks
