Red Foot Gestation

Hacker Jul 06, 2003 11:32 AM

What is the Gestation period for Red Foots? Also my pen is just water garden and grass, will I need to make a special area for her to lay eggs, or will she dig through the grass? Thanks for your time.

It will take between 120 and 175 days for hatching. Incubation
temps between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius to obtain both sexes,
humidity around 80%.

For a nesting site outside build up a hill (best supported with
wood logs or the like on three sides) from sand / loam, that will
support a hole when digged in (not too sandy, so it would slide
back while digging and not too hard / clay, so excavation gets
too hard). If there is enough time, planting this hill with
plants that develop a fine root system (to support a hole) would
nicely resemble a laying site chosen in the wild.

Good luck,
Gaby

I want to know the gestation period (how long she carries the eggs for). I saw my reds breeding on the 4th of July and I just want to know when to expect eggs.

So I have to build up a hill of nesting material for her to lay in, she will just not dig a hole in flat ground?
