eastern milksnakes (lampropeltis triangulum triangulum)are the only species of milksnake found in NY. I'd say average of 2-3 foot although Iv'e seen bigger. there colors vary alot as does pattern basicaly it's blotched with varying shades or brickred, brown, or tan with smaller blotches being grey, tan, or creme colored. the best way to find Easterns is to flip them, just make sure you put everything back the way you found it. Eastern are my fav if you want more info or chat on some good places in NY to find the Email me

Here's an Eastern Milk I caught and released near my home in PA last summer. They'll look pretty much like this in NY too.

If you didn't see my post in the rat snake forum when I replied to your message, I'll say it again. I've seen your posts in 3 or 4 forums so far asking about different kinds of snakes. My advice to you is to go to www.enature.com and search by whatever zip code you'll be in up in NY. Then you can filter the search results to include only snakes. That'll narrow it down to anything and everything you'll find in that zip code and it gives good pictures and estimates on the lengths. One thing you might have to do is look under the given picture to see if there is a different link for the particular morph (in this case, the Eastern subspecies) that you're looking for.

That site has helped me out a TON since I started doing field work. Good luck!
