Got another question

sunfox Feb 01, 2005 06:44 PM

Would it be ok to use one of those waterfall/foggers in a uroplatus tank? I would think that it would keep the humidity up while providing shallow, running water for them to drink from.

Thanks all

To keep the humidity up in my cages i use an ultrasonic humidifier also known as a fogger. What I did was I took a empty milk carton and washed it out then cut a hole out in about the middle of the milk carton and filled the bottom with water and placed the fogger in and place the whole contraction on top of my cage. The fog collects in the milk carton then and funnels out of the hole and down through the top of you cage. This way you don't have to worry about keeping the humidity up or you animals drowning and its cheaper.

one more thing to mention... the foggers will shock anything that comes into contact with it so it is a good idea to keep the animals from direct contact. i touched mine a couple of times to see what it felt like, it wasn't terrible but i would imagine it would be a pretty hefty shock for a small gecko

You cant clean the inside of the pump either, bacterial haven. I dont reccommend them at all. Cages need to dry during the day, and a good substrate will hold the humidity at a suitable daytime level. Nightly watering is plenty, too much humidity and you have mold issues.

yea i've been trying to think of a makeshift misting system for a while and i figured i would only try the fogger idea if it used water only. thats what feedbacks for! so thanks guys. ill probably look for one of those foggers, and try to get a tub to put it in and distribute the fog thru tubing, all conected to fog it up for just a couple minutes a couple of times a day.
