Is there any other insects I should feed my dragon....

firefrost8k Jul 06, 2003 11:51 AM

Currently I have a 3 month old bearded dragon, I feed it 3 week old crickets, she can eat any where from 25-80 a day. I was wondering if there is any other insects that she/he can eat or should I just stick with crickets till she/he gets bigger?

you could try feeding him (or her) baby meal worms 1-2 a day.

you dont want to give mealworms to a dragon that young...the high chitin level in the exoskeleton of the worm can cause blockage and even death. As the answer to your question, you can feed the daily salad, the crix, butterworms, baby roaches (no bigger than the size between the eyes), baby silkworms, small hornworms, etc etc etc....go to www.mulberryfarms.com

At 3 months old, your baby should be about 8 inches long or more (from snout to tail tip). It is possible that you could try feeding him/her 1 (one) small meal worm a day. I wouldn't give him/her any more than that at this size becuse you risk impaction or they will regurgitate them. It is better to try switching to 4 week old crickets and seeing how that works. You could try wax worms, however I find that at this age, they tend to regurgitate them. You could also feed small(baby) silk worms or baby goliath worms. They seem to have an easier time with those and really love them.
