I have a sex-starved uro!

tristan Feb 02, 2005 01:51 AM

My soon to be 4 yr. old male egyptian uro, Dog, tried to hump my hand today. I usually take him out and put him on the patio to bask in the sun (which he adores!) when I clean his cage in the morning. But today, when I went to pick him up, he sprinted to my hand and tried to 'grab' the palm of my hand. I'm 100% sure he wasn't trying to bite because he could have bitten my finger if he wanted. Instead, he opened his mouth and was trying to 'grip' my palm. I've never seen uros breed before but I've seen my beardies do it, so I know how the male grabs the female.
After wards when I took him outside he started rubbing his belly on the patio in a counterclockwise motion. He also had a black throat.
I guess he has lived up to his name of "Dog."
I'm pretty sure he wants a girlfriend, but he'll have to wait, my two females are only 1.5 years old! They're putting on some good size though.
Has anyone else had a uro try to hump you? Share your stories please.
Thanks for reading,
Tristan

That's the first I've heard of anyone's uro humping their hand.

So how big is Dog anyways (length and weight)? I want to get an egyptian sometime in May so I was wondering how big males get and how big females get.

Sorry he humped you, if it were me I'd be a little shocked and weirded out by it.

Hope he doesn't do it to you again.

he's about 21 inches now. as far as weight, i'm not sure. i haven't weighed him since i got him about a year ago. he's put on some good weight and he always cleans out his food bowl everyday.
he refuses crickets and mealworms... he shakes his head everytime i try to put them in front of his face.
good luck with getting your egyptian!

I don't wanna seem nosy or anything but I was wondering if you could tell me who you got your egyptians from.

I've talked to Pike about getting an egpytian this May but he won't have any CB's then (he said that he might have cb's in August but I'd want to get one before then in case someone goes wrong that way it won't be cold if I need to return/ship back for some reason).

I got Dog from a lady in Hollywood. I don't know where she got him from. My two yearling females I got from Noel from hacienda anura. He has a pretty impressive breeding ground down near Palm Springs. I talked to him about a month or two ago and he said that he didn't have any luck on breeding his egyptians this past summer. I think it would be a good idea for you to contact him though. Here's his website:

Good luck!

If only I lived in California, I live in IL (and probably will live here until I die, unless I get a police job in NYC).

I'll give him a shot if what I'm working on now falls through.

Thanks and you do have some very pretty egyptians.

Hi Tristan,

He looks like egyptian microlepis? Is that right, or is he the larger aegypticus? He looks great by the way! What are you feeding him and what temps do you maintain in your setup?

I have an egyptian microlepis, but he's about 14" and not quite as beefy looking as dog.

Thanks,
Craig

That is funny as hell! If he does it again, you should take a picture!
I beleive it though.

I think it was Peter (username: Georgio) and his adult male Egyptian uro, Boulder. It sounds like it has happened a few times during mating season. Boulder would start getting those "special feelings" and attempt to get amourous with Peter's hand. One time, he decided to flip his hand over in front of Boulder and he [Boulder] stopped pursuing it. I guess uros recognize the action of "flipping over" as a no-go for mating.
Next time your male tries it again, flip your hand over in front of him and see if he reacts to it.

Good luck
