Creamsicle?

AngryDwarf Feb 02, 2005 07:33 AM

Hi,

I have been told that my female could be a creamsicle. I bred her myself and she has a brother that is similar but more light orange ground colour. I personally think she is too dark to be a proper creamsicle.

Just wanted some opinions really, any comments welcome.

but not a creamsicle. too much yellow and not enough white/orange. you're definately headed in the right direction though.

Really, I'm not sure why this keeps coming up, but I feel like I'm getting better at explaining it every day, so here goes.

"Creamsicle" is simply a nickname for an orange crested gecko with a white fire pattern. Orange isn't an uncommon color, so the rarity of a "creamsicle" is the white pattern.

As for your gecko, it looks like a red gecko with a light yellow fire pattern...which is just as (if not more) impressive, at least in my book.

Unfortunately, there's no name for that color combination, so the droves of clueless newbies (who just love cute names) have nothing to call it.

Well thanks for clearing it up for me, although I do feel like I've had a ticking off for even bringing it up. Still I do have an excuse, I'm from the UK and we're a bit behind you Yanks in terms of morphs etc.

Hopefully I'll get there in the end though, can't wait to breed her this year and see what she can produce! Thanks for all the comments!

Here's a pic of one of my female chahoua,(breeding these this year aswell) hope you all like.

Sorry, but if you scroll down a bit, you'll see the creamsicle subject has been covered once already this week...and then there's the time when we covered it last week (on page 2).

For the last month or so, we've had about five people ask the same question...and of course, none of them had an orange & white gecko.

That chahoua is very pale...reminds me of the one in the Rhac book. Does it get darker at times or is it always like that?

Fair enough, I know what it's like to keep answering the same question on forums, it does get old quick, I should have searched the forum, but wanted an excuse to show her off a bit aswell.

The Chahoua does go darker at times, she is pretty light most of the time though. I should be pairing her up with a friends male this year, as his male is lighter than mine. Hopefully she will produce some nice looking babies!

Best wishes,

Baz

Honestly, I like red fires (true red like yours) better than the "creamsicles."

Cool looking chahoua. Don't get in too big a hurry to breed her, though. I'm dealing with a calcium deficient one right now and to be quite blunt, it sucks.

I'm waiting till she is a good 18 months old with plenty of weight till I do breed her.

Have you noticed that chahoua need more calium? I'm thinking of using UV lights with my group since they tend to make use of a basking area. If they bask in the wild they would get more sunlight than other Rhacs?. I find I have to be extra vigilant with the supplements with my group of chahoua.

Anyway thanks for the comments,

Best wishes,

Baz

I'm just a newbie with Chahoua. I only have 2.2, but I have noticed and heard from other breeders that they do need more calcium. The eggs (all two that I've gotten) are highly calcified, so that really makes sense.

I've also noticed that they do make use of a basking site. The only thing is if you provide UVB, you have to be careful about D3 supplementation. Overdoing it with the calcium/D3 is just as bad as not enough and since you really can't be sure how much UVB they're really getting, I wouldn't think it a good idea to cut back on their D3 either...so I lean towards supplementing them and sticking with a night bulb or heat tape for their basking site.

Again, I'm just starting out with them, so don't take any of that as gospel.

Yep, I've considered that, The other worry I had was if they hid all day in the plants away from the UV after I cut the vits down. I will have to see how it goes, but there shouldn't be any problems if I'm careful and keep an eye on their behaviour.

I should be expanding my chahoua collection this year at some point, they have become one of my firm favourites.

Good luck with yours, hope they do well for you!

Hey Anthony-
What are you feeding your chahouas? Are you using the crested or the gargoyle diet? What about crix and dusts? I only have one but I want to make sure I'm feeding it right (it's only 2mo old). Thanks for any help

AngryDwarf Feb 04, 2005 06:15 AM

Mine eat mostly crickets, but also eat fruit and CGD aswell.

robs Feb 03, 2005 09:43 AM
