Great display animals, very fun to watch. Not for handling, but are quite hardy. They will hide lots though, and may not be for everyone.

Why do you say not for handling? Are the temperment more like Niles? or Dumerils?

Ive had about 20 of them over the last 10 years. There a small monitor, hearty, kinda skiddish, like live food but will eat meats. Mine were sort of mean, like those little mean fish who seems to kill the bigger fish. I made a mistake by putting 2 smaller rounghneck monitors in with a few small mangroves. Mangroves kill them overnight. Overall i like them, i kinda like the bluetail monitor a bit more, somwhat the same but nicer looking.

Generally they remain flighty, and in a cage that means defensive. They have a large personal space. I"d like to think that of most aboreal or semi-aboreal monitors but I"ve only worked with a few species.
