Reducing Temp

Actioncritter Feb 02, 2005 12:05 PM

Hey. I just bought an under tank heater for my new leo. It is a 6 inch X 6 inch (or so) square, made by Exo-Tera. I have it positioned all of the way under one side of the 10 gallon tank. The humid box in over this area. Anyway, the only other heat in there is a 25 watt blue night light but that doesn't really give off any heat at all. The temp on the hot side is a little over 90, like 95. I know this is TOO hot. I only leave it on during the day, from say 8 Am, til 10:30 Pm. The cool side is around 80. What could I do to lower that temp? Isn't there some sort of device that I can buy that will allow me to lower the vots or something? I'm thinking of only using 1/2 of the heat pad and letting the rest stick out from the back of the tank. That would lower the temp a bit.

My other leo only has a 50 wat red heat buld in with her. Her hot side stays at between 80-85 and the cool side is between 75-80 during the day. Are these temps ok? This lamp stays on from about 8 Am to 10:30 Pm also. I've had this gecko for 6 months and she is growing and is sheading well too. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'm thinking of buying a thermostat. Do these temps seem a little too high? 90-95 on hot side of a 10 gallon? What temps do you guys try to keep and with what bulbs, heat pads, etc do you use? Thanks!
