Outdoor Iguana Enclosure

IMacBevan Feb 02, 2005 02:09 PM

This is a picture of my outdoor Iguana Enclosure. Since this picture was taken I have completed the roof (a clear material to allow light in). All that is left is to finish some electrical - I need to wire in the thermostat to shut off the heat emitters and the mist system which will Tee off of the sprinkler system for my one of my Turtle/Tortoise compounds (the fence on the left). It has a built in pool with drain to allow free soaking and help keep the humidity high. His actual living space is approximately 4'w x 6'h x 8'l. Temps in his hide/sleep area are great. The other night had a low of 49 degrees and the surface area where he was sleeping was 85. Enjoy

Very nice! All iguanas should be so lucky. Did you use pvc coated wire or is that one of the brands of plastic fencing mesh?

Thanks for the compliments. The mesh is 1/2" plastic hardware cloth on the sides and the ceiling is 1/2" metal hardware cloth to allow for heating elements in the future if needed. Frame is a made from 1" Schedule 40 PVC. I've since found a better supplier for the mesh which when I need to reside it I will probably go with.

Darwin (the iguana) has been loving this new cage. Even though it is winter here he has really colored up. I went with the plastic mesh because he kept injuring his chin in his previous cage. I'm not sure if was due to it's size (4 x 4 x 4), or sensitivity on his part to the zinc coating on the metal hardware cloth.

Thanks again for the complements. I'll try and post when it is a little more complete.

Ian
