Where did I go wrong?

darkzel Feb 02, 2005 02:26 PM

I got my pacman frog a week before christmas.... I thought I ahd done all the right things. I have him peat moss as a substrate, ten gallon tank, heater, even made the tank hood myself to hold in oisture and keep it really humid in there. But, he never really ate. I could tell he was a little wierd when I got him (counldnt close ihs mout compleatly, and didnt hop well) however, he was a gift, and I lvoed him. during the entire time I ahd him, he ate three crickets, and that was near the end. he died this morning. I just want to know what I might've done wrong.....

Chances are you didnt go wrong...sounds like your frog had problems from the beginning. The only thing I can see that could of helped is taking it to the vet ASAP. Better luck next time.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, BUT DO TRY AGAIN. I DON'T THINK YOU DID ANYTHING WRONG.

Exactly, you probably didn't do anything wrong. I've heard that there may be specimens that are born weak and would require special care. In the wild these specimens would never live long.

It sounds like your frog had the beginnings of MBD bewfore you even got him. If it helps any, this was not your fault. Probably, the store was not giving him as much calcium supplement as he needed, and his bones and jaw did not develop properly. I actually had a little horned frog awhile back, and the same thing happened.
I would try and seek out a subadult HF (about half grown) that looks healthy, if you plan on getting anew one. Froglets of this species seem very fragile and are tougher to keep than already-eating adults.
