OK for snakes to crawl on family furniture

britbiker Feb 02, 2005 03:02 PM

I always read the warning about washing your hands before and after you handle reptiles (due to salmanella) and I do so with my corn snake and my bearded dragon lizards. My question: is it unsafe or unsanitary to let such reptiles crawl around on a couch or chair also used by the family (the kids, that is). The last couply of nights I've let my corn snake do it and I'd like to continue because it seems to be a nice break from his cage. He seems quite curious in any event.
Thanks.

I also let my snakes crawl around on my couch and bed. They seem to enjoy the time out of their cages. I don't know about salmonella. I haven't had a problem.
