Cage size for a full grown blue beauty

crtoon83 Feb 02, 2005 08:08 PM

I was just wondering what size cage would a full grown blue beauty need? Would one of those 72" x 28" x 18" vision cages suffice? Or the 72" x 36" x 18" cage?

Chris,

I always say the bigger the better. With something that can be as big as a Blue Beauty I'd go as large as you can afford. Give them lots of branches and hide spots and they'll give you a show.

Well either of those are affordable (after some savings lol)... $340 and $370 are how much they run, however a 80" long x 28" deep x 44" high would run me upwards of $800. Can't afford that!!!

Just curious, why aren't you building a cage now that you have the experience?

I assume it's the time issued with being a college student and all, but it seems like you could get a nice cage built slowly over time, perhaps even quicker than the time to save the cash.

If it's a weight issue I've got some ideas about that. Feel free to drop an e-mail.

Well the weight was the biggest factor. However I thought about it logically and there's really not a feasable way for me to do keep such a large snake at this time in my life. I'll be moving out to an apartment soon about 4.5 hours away for college... so inbetween moving this back and forth and all, plus just the massive amount of space it will take up, I got in touch with terry parks and i'm going to trade it with him - i'll get a male tx bairdi to go with my female so i may try my hand at that in a few years.

Thanks though!

Sorry to hear that, but I remember those days all to well. When I was at your point in life I limited myself to NA ratsnakes and kingsnakes. I would not even keep the smaller Pituophis.

Of course I ended up with a Florida Kingsnake that was absolutely huge so go figure. Still not in the same class as a Blue Beauty.

Lot's of fun choices with the small(er) stuff.
