Weird Behavior, Need Help Please

Triad Feb 02, 2005 09:38 PM

The past two days Hades has been acting unusual.

Here's the story:

It was either Monday or Sunday when I decided to move my room around.

So I moved Kalypso (my leo) to the opposite wall and Hades was only moved about 8 feet from where he was. I moved my bed over by him so he can look down at me and see me sleeping or just chillin on my bed.

That night I woke up at 11:30 and saw him staring at me while I was sleeping. I didn't think anything of it. Then Yesterday (tuesday) I went and said Hello to him and he puffed his beard out at me. His beard was all black and he looked real pissed off. It just so happens that it was Tuesday and the first of the month so that means Tornado sirens were being tested and those just pissed him off even more.

Later that day after I went to school and got crickets for him he was still doing it. He did it again today but he also made a loud hissing noise this time.

But there's a catch: I had my brother Cody come in the room, and I left, Hades stopped. Then I had Cody leave and I came back in and he started doing it again.

Could this be a sign that he's ready to mate?

Here is a picture of him Puffing out his "BLACK BEARD" at me:

Nope, nothing new, no new perfume or clothes (I like my clothes so I hardly go out and buy new ones unless they get worn out. So I wash my clothes DAILY *mom seems a little mad about the water bill I make*).

My brother seems to think that maybe he is in heat. He's an adult almost a year and a half old now.

He's been in my room since August 2004 so it shouldn't be that my constant presence is bothering him, since the fact that the only reasons I go into my room are: Sleeping, watching tv (ususally before bed for a half hour), playing with Hades & Kalypso or to change clothes after a shower.

Plus he really likes watching me. He watches me eat when I eat in my room, he watches me change clothes (which sort of makes me uneasy a little bit) he watches anything and everything going on in my room.

There is a possibility he is ready to mate, but usually they only show those signs around other males/females/animals. Because you changed the room around, he is probably very stressed out. I would leave him be to get used to the surroundings. Good luck with the little guy!

just because hes watching doesnt mean he LIKES watching you. mabye your presence makes him feel uncomfortable and he wants to keep an eye on you. also bearded dragons dont go into "heat"

is there a possibility that you're hitting his stand/table (even enclosure maybe) while you're asleep? Maybe moving him 8ft has put his enclosure in the way of a cold draft (possibly from a window or something).

No way I could be hitting it, that things hard and if I hit it then the noise itself would've woken me up.

He's been on that side of the wall before, so it's not that much of a change.

You gotta love them, Sounds like you pissed him off when you rearranged your room, did you also rearrange his tank too? they do get stressed out when their surrounding is changed on them, he is seeing you and the room from a unfamilar perspective now, be patient he will come around, meanwhile just keep loving him for his wonderful personality!

See now this is the funny part:

He was on that wall in August when I put him in my room. Then I moved him to a bigger tank in September and he moved places in the room, neither time did he do this.

Didn't move a thing in his tank at all.

If he's calm tonight I need to take him out so I can get his tank cleaned up and put some more sand in (he likes digging in it).

I made a joke today with my mom. I came home and found that Hades shredded up the paper towel I put his food on last night (ran out of paper plates). So I was like mom, looks like we've been to quick to judge cheeka(dog) it seems as though Hades has been escaping his enclosure going downstairs and tearing up papertowel and leaving it on the floor for the dog to take the blame.

I recently moved my beardie, she actually made a few large moves. She moved not only from her 55gallon tank into her 90gallon tank, but also from one apartment to another. And she was NOT pleased. For the first few days she puffed up at me every time i went near her.

I left her alone to mellow out for a couple days and now she is fine again.

See that's one thing I CAN'T DO. I cannot leave him be for a couple days because he's in MY room, the place where I sleep.

He hasn't done it yet today. I also picked him up last night and held him while he started to sleep so I think it's passed.

Judging the pictures you posted it certainly looks like he's having a pop at you. You moved him around so you get the cold shoulder. A bit of fuss will bring him round, just show him your not bothered by his display and he'll soon settle down. Give him a few treats that he likes too. If anything will distract a beardie it's their favorite food!!
