Sternodactylus petrii sexing and group keeping question

Rotto Jul 06, 2003 01:48 PM

Hello!
I am having problems sexing my S. petrii, not easy to lift him/her/it up and look on the underside... Is there any other way to determine the sex?

If you keep a group of S. petrii, is it possible to keep more than one male in the group (if keept in a large tank)? Or will the males fight? (Only asking because i have heard of people keeping several males in one tank... but i want more opinions.)

The one in the pic is a female, males have HUGE bulges...Yes, u can have more than one male, but I'd only put 2 maximum.

Hey I recently bught some Sternodactylus mine look alot like yous although I didn't know what subspeicies I have. I bought thm just the other day have them set up in a 48 gallon citter cage with play sane, a rock for hiding and a moist micro habitat, a basking spot (75 watt). I ordered a eat matt to put under the tank and another hide box but I also what finer sand. How long have you kept yours? I thought mine where neat since they look to me like spider geckos but then I found out they are all under weight but I hopefully can turn them all around they been eatting duted crikets well that I have fed greens, fig, and some veggies.

Hi!
I have had my Stenodactylus for about 1˝ year, and I´m planing to get a few more later this summer.
The setup sounds fine, although I´m not sure you need a heat matt, since the 75W bulb produces alot of heat. So maybe you should check the temperature first before getting the heat matt.
One thing I have noticed with my S. petrii is that they love to dig, making their own hidding places, so alot of fine sand is recomended. To make the sand compact, so that its "digable", I mist it once a week.
Check out www.gekkota.com (great site) for more pictures of Stenodactylus speicies!
