Is my Brazilian Rainbow ok outside?

lovebox505 Jul 06, 2003 01:58 PM

I have been having trouble with humidity with my BRB....big suprise. I have tried keeping him in the bathroom but that does not help much. I live in southwest Florida, so the humidity outside is great, however I am scared that the temp might be a little too high. He is not in the direct sun, his cage is on the porch, there is a roof and he is in a slightly shadey/sunny area. Today the temp read 97 degrees. I know this is high for BRB but it was not blazing heat on him. Do you think I should put him back inside?

a temperature gun and find out exactly what the temperature inside his enclosure is. if there is no part of the cage below... say... 84/85 degrees during the hottest part of the day, you may want to reconsider. what will probably help the most is getting the cage out of the sunlight.

Barzilains needs a much cooler temperature than that.
Even if the humidity in florida is 80 percent thats not going to cut it. You need a better enclosure for humiditdy go get a plactics rubbermaid container put some airholes in it and voila.
as good as it gets
