Gargoyle's tail is growing back??

Charlotte Feb 03, 2005 01:22 AM

Hi,

Got a question regarding the regeneration of tails in gargoyle geckos.
I work at a pet store, and we had a couple of gargoyle geckos. The littlest one dropped his tail, thus making him "imperfect" and not sellable. So I got to adopt him. So I got a nice little gargoyle for free to add to my rhacodactylus group! =)

I brought my tail-less friend home, and in a matter of a few short weeks a little black 'nub' formed. I assumed it wouldn't get very big, but now a month later, and he's got almost an inch of tail! Still black, but at the base it's beginning to develop pattern.

I thought the gargoyle's tail wouldn't grow back like the cresteds.
Was I just confused?? Or...??

Thanks. Any and all comments appreciated.
Charlotte

In about a month, you probably won't be able to tell it ever lost its tail.....

If you keep auriculatus very long, you will get used to this happening because they can be a little aggressive with each other. I have a theory that if you put 20 babies in a cage that they could grow to maturity from just eating each others tails

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, after posting this message I did a bit of searching on this forum and found out about that.
Makes sense... there was a larger gargoyle in there who's tail is nothing short of perfect. I bet he's the culprit in the tail missing incident.

So, they grow their tails back? I thought they were like cresties and didn't grow them back...
