Just to let you know before I start, I understand about cycling ball to get them to breed, and how to do this.

Now, I also know a few small time "breeders" who basically have a 1.1 pair, or maybe two who leave their balls together year round and don't intentionally cycle them. I actually hatched out a clutch for one guy who didn't intend to breed, but walked in and found a clutch of eggs one day. Now, my question is how often, reliable, etc. is this likely to happen? Is it likely that subtle environmental factors (such as it being harder to offer truely warm temps in a cooler winter room) are to blame, or is it random luck. I understand that without cycling, fertile breeding is less likely due to pituitary cues, etc.

Also, if a newly aquired female has not been intentionally cycled, is it safe to begin her cycle late in the season or in the off-season, given the chance that she might be in ovulation, or pre-ovulation, etc? Or is it just better to leave them till next year?

Thanks,
nate.
