Over eating

tommymac Feb 03, 2005 09:10 AM

I guess this would be a good problem, my little gal is an eating machine, and is easily putting down 3 and 4 pinkies every 4 or 5 days. Shes ready for fuzzies but I want to use up the rest of the pinkies Ihave first.

That is not a problem at all unless you think she is looking obese. I love healthy robust snakes that always want more food. Some snakes will get overweight though. I have had to slow down on feeding some that I thought were too healthy, if you know what I mean. Glad to here the Mexicana is feeding well. I guess the myths of them being picky feeders are just that, MYTHS.

I wish that were the problem with two my mexicana ssp. I have one Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi who will only take live pinks inside their hides in the terrerium. After weeks and weeks of trying thawed, scented, brained, or live pinks in a feeding container I gave up. It's not too much a problem since I breed my own mice and always have live available and when I got them I knew they that were taking live also. However out of the 3 mexicana ssp. I take care of I have one female San Luis Potosi that never refused and eats like yours except 2-3 pinks every week, she switched over to f/t without missing a feed. With my others that are feeding live I'm waiting until this summer to try to get'em on f/t again. Hey, at least their feeding and I know it will happen sometime as they grow. Each snake is different because I also have an adult Cal King that tried to burmate on me and I couldn't get him to eat for months and it doesn't get cold enough here in the winter to burmate because I tried in my garage. This Cal King would only take live stunned mice and it's become a habit and I have to switch him back this summer. Before live became this Cal King addiction he ate f/t for 4-5 yrs. As long as they eat, especially during the winter since I can't burmate, it's casual with me.
Anyway, after my rambling, Legless your lucky and as John said all you have to do is watch the weight but since it's not an adult you should be fine.

I am prety fortunate with this one since I have had picky eaters in the past. I was told she was eating live and frozens but I tend to stay away from live stuff after I lost 4 snakes to mites back when I first started out.

Yesterday I thawwed 3 pinks to throw in and when I took her out her eyes went blue and her skin is real pale, I figured I iwll throw them in anyway, she took one but wouldne eat the othes, so I will sit on her now untill she sheds, which I cant wait for.
