Just my thoughts...

I just have to get this off my mind. There are some of you just sitting at the keyboard dying to whine about something ...people flipping out about jokes ,( I have to say the web site one was top notch!) ,cutting down web site designs (*Note there's more info on those web sites than most books on the subject) ,Griping because someone might try to make a dollar on any of this.

Your missing the big picture .On this forum we have the originator of a great food product and author of the Mag article that's stood the test of time as THE resource for beginning crested ownership, A mind boggling photographer that throws on crested photos that should be framed who I should mention also GAVE us his information, research and proof on a crested disease that could save any of our entire collections. And someone who certainly has developed a well deserved reputation as the premier authority on Breeding cresteds for color and morphs. To the degree that companies are willing to market his designs to the benefit of crested gecko owners .As for making a dollar on it..Ive got news ,thats how our country has become great.Capitalism is what makes it possible for people to discover and build new things. In the long run our hobby benifits from it!
Any of these men are willing to and have answered the youngest newbie's simplest question on crested's.
LIGHTEN UP !!!! Just my 2 cents...

I feel privileged that the likes of Allen Repashy, Randy May and Anthony Caponetto are as generous with their knowledge and experience as they are, and am absolutely amazed by it! Happily, they are mature and secure enough not to let the petty lunacy that occasionally invades ruffle them too easily.

I have gotten much usefull information on keeping cresteds from this website, and from websites of the people mentioned in the previous post. Now if I could only get some info. on selective breeding...genetics...that sort of secretive stuff!

In reply ...I dont think its so much a secret as it is simply not that kind of a science. Not having had a second generation to breed yet ,Im certainly no expert. But it is my understanding that Crested Morphs (colors and patterns) are not Dominant/recessive traitsthat can be predicted . Instead breeding individuals to encourage or increase a trait is how you acomplish a Breeding project. For example a individual with decent orange mixed with a individual with decent orange is likely to result in a even deeper orange.Mix one of the above lizards with a buckskin its likely the offspring will not be as bright orange as its parent. However you can end up with offspring that are totally different from either parent's color if those traits are in the animals heritage.Thats what makes it fun..reliable enough to work towards a goal crazy enough for a surprize. Considering cresteds change color throughout thier lives and even between night and day I sometimes thing good looking lizard and not so good looking lizard ought to be the only two recognized morphs ! lol
Just my ramblings, Pat
