I used to have a burmese python years ago (I no longer have him) and last week got a ball python. I have noticed definite differences in the two. My ball python (Dave) does not like to come out during the day (I have a heat lamp on him 150 watts), is the 150 too hot or bright for him? Also I've feed him twice. The first time he seemed like he really didn't know what he was doing, he was very slow in letting go of the mouse after he killed it and he tried to eat it butt first, then he would grab the mouses side, drag it around the tank and finally ate it head first. I just feed him today, he went to strike the mouse and missed (I've never seen a snake do that before), I mean he missed it by a good inch or two. When he did finally kill the mouse, again it took him a long time to unravel from the mouse, then he did eat it butt first, he got it about half way down and I think he started choking on the mouse (I'm guessing cause he ate him the wrong way). And as the head was going down (the last part of the mouse since he ate him backwards) he actually had the top half of his body in the air. Dave was standing up to swallow the mouse down, he was also waving back and forth and falling backwards. Is that normal? Was there a choking hazard? When we got Dave last week he was sheding and not used to people picking him up, I have been handling him a little at a time and petting him, at the moment his eyes are covered in film. Would that be why he doesn't like the light? Would that affect how he ate the mouse? I'm scared to feed him again because I don't know how he'll eat next time and I'm worried about him choking. And what do I do if he does choke and how will I know. I would appreiciate any help on this, I'm really worried about him and scared to feed him again till I know what's going on. Thanks.
