Blood in Poop

Samurai33 Feb 03, 2005 02:15 PM

Our frilled dragon has us worried. It's extremely hard to get any in-depth info on them and since there make up is similar to beardies I was hoping someone could help us out.

Our Frilled is around 6 months (we rescued him from a pet store and they weren't sure of his age). Long story short, he seems to be pushing extremely hard to poop and there's always drops of blood. I finally watched him go and everything comes out quick and fine, but he continues to push. He's pooped regularly too. His first fecal test came back negative and his stool looks good otherwise, but even after he poops he pushes for a bit after. I think he's strainning himself, like dragon hemoroids, but after he's done going his vent looks fine. He seems fine otherwise, we've only had him two months and he's grown an inch and half. He's on shelf liner, is sprayed once a day, and in a 4' tall cage.

Any advice would be great. Thank you

mine push purity hard too and there vent does come out alittle, but for the lizard to poop to vent size ratio ... it should come out alittle to make the drop easier.
Have you had the blood in poop checked out by a herp. vet.? If not you should because there could have been something that it eat that cut its insides.

i hope this helps

good luck

I haven't had it checked yet. What is the best way to collect the blood do you think? For normal fecal test I put in a paper towel and ziplock. I do think its blood it definately is the right color. This week we're only feeding him formula (Rep-Cal Bearded Dragon Pellets, blended with H2O and elctrodize), just in case the crickets were to much for him. What do you feed yours?

Thanks!!!

personally i dont like to feed anything but live food and can-o-worm. the aftermark products can get costly and they can also dye the poop. my frillies wont eat anything that does not move except can-o-worm.mine also love anoles. my female loves them so much that she goes allot to get to it. if you feed these make sure they are NOT from an area were there are other people. the other people could put out pesticides
