thiers tons of stuff that could be bread for lizards etc that are free and easy. if you know of any others, please post them.
does anybody have any opinions about this stuff at all? like could it hurt the animals or maybe be too low nutritionally for them?
Flies. flies are easy to breed. in the summer, stick some meat in an aquarium outside so the flies ley eggs on it. then cover it and let em hatch and breed so you have hundreds of flies for frogs. could also use the maggots as food for smaller lizards.
mosquitoes. just as easy as flies. stick a pail of water outside and let mosquitoes ley eggs in it. when the larva grow a bit, net them up and put them in a small bowl of water in the tank, or in a terrarium pond. then when the mosquitoes emerge from the larva, frogs can eat them. or fish could eat the larva.
Spiders. catch a few large garden spiders. let them breed and when they lay thier egg sack, let the spiders go. save the egg sac though and either hatch it right away by putting it in a tank inside, or let it sit outside over winter for hatching in spring. either way, thiers gonna be hundreds or thousands of baby spiders for lizards to eat. if you hatch them in a seperate tank, you can breed fruit flies for them to eat so they grow bigger. then you'd have larger spiders for the lizards etc to eat.
