Humidification

RhinoGab Feb 03, 2005 02:53 PM

Hi all. I'm new to the world of collecting/raising snakes and recently got a neonate candy cane from a friend of mine. He/she is in a 10 gal. aquarium with 2 hide spots - one on the warm side and one on the cool side, along with a small water bowl that I clean and refill every 2-3 days. My question is: Do they require any misting or soaking? Thanks.

Clif

p.s. I am feeding him a small pinky every 5 days and he eats with no problems.

Only when they're about to shed, really. Best way of doing this is to keep a humid hide in their tank, then they can tuck themselves into it when they need to. Misting is a bit overkill for Corns - they do fine without it and misting can cause problems with mold growth (shortens the life of a wooden or melamine viv as well).

Get a small Rubbermaid box, cut an entry hole in it (heat the edges to ensure no sharp bits), fill with damp sphagnum moss or damp paper towel and put the lid on. I usually keep mine half way between the warm and cool ends of the tank. Just replace the moss/towel if soiled and keep it damp in the meantime.

Hope that helps.
Kel
