swollen/bloating

bmulcahy Feb 03, 2005 04:57 PM

I saw a post from several weeks ago with a similar situation. I am looking for any advice. I brought one of my females back to my class yesterday and she has stayed swollen since I brought her into school. It has been a day and a half now. She even sleeps swollen. Basic facts: Cage has temperature range of 80 to 105 degrees. She has eaten crickets, superworms, salad, and waxworms over the last few days. She hasn't eaten since I brought her to school (maybe a couple of waxworms). It has been several days since she has pooped. I will try a bath tomorrow. She has been active and allows me to pick her up. She is alone in her tank. She has all her lighting requirements. The cage's floor is 36 by 24. She has several hides.

I would appreciate any comments/thoughts.

Brian - There could be numerous things wrong with her. I would definetly bring her in for a checkup to the vet (I know, you were dreading someone saying that!). Try to get her to defecate, and snatch it up and bring it with you as well. Without seeing her myself, I cannot make a very accurate conjecture, but I would say she is either severely constipated/possible impacted (not likely from what I read here..), bacterial infection inside her (possible cause of bloating), or the most probably cause being some kind of parasites. Bring her in along with a fecal and let a vet make a educated diagnosis! Let us know how it goes, and what is really going on if you choose to take her in!

She took a very large poop today after a bath and I took her stool to the vet to get checked out. If there are problems, I will take her to the vet next week. Thanks for your suggestions.
