Trouble catching crickets

JerJel Feb 03, 2005 08:15 PM

Is it unusual for a crestie to usually miss when lunging at a cricket? I have a male and female in a 20H tank. Both of them often miss, but the male is much worse at it. Last night he struck at crickets about 6 or 7 times, and I don't think he ever caught one.

Could they be sluggish from low temperatures? Their temp right now is usually about 65-68. I got them in November when the room was a bit warmer and I think they were more competent then.

Also, they spend almost all the time on the floor of the tank (except when sleeping). Is this also due to low energy level during the winter?

You might want to raise the temps just alittle. I keep mine @ about 80. They are kept on the cool side of my herp room and have no other heating besides that that is in the room... But then again they miss sometimes but not often..lol..
