Type of wood for Vivarium...

Hey guys! I was going to build a snake vivarium for a garter snake and was wondering 2 things, 1.) What type of wood is used for vivariums? 2.) How thick can it be? Thanks alot guys!

1.) What type of wood is used for vivariums?

What kind do you like? Oak is commonly used for cages that end up with a stain coat (like mine), however birch will give you a nice smooth surface to paint. You can also build out of melamine. Personal preference.

2.) How thick can it be? Thanks alot guys!

I'd reccomend for the wood to be 3/4".

1.) What type of wood is used for vivariums?

Typically sheet material, plywood, mdf, melamine, etc. Use what looks good to you. If you want a painted interior birch plywood is hard to beat.

2.) How thick can it be?

For a Gartersnake 1/2" is fine if you're good at centering screws or nails in the material.
