herping in the south.

I'm going to plan a trip down south, probably in the north carolina I was wondering if anyone knew any good ares or would like to show a NYer how to herp I'm only looking for photos and would be interested in just about everything herp wise. probably won't be till mid june let me know I''d appreciate it immensely

im from nc, theres a couple of good regions. if you're into snakes, i would recommend the sandhills. im pretty new to herping, but ive got some friends who are really good. the sandhills should be a good place to go if you're looking for venomous. dont really know any sites in particular though, sorry.

Just curious if you guys happen to know what time of year the herps start coming out around NC. I'm actually in Southern Virginia but I'm sure its similar timing.

depends on the kinds of herps. amphibs usually start coming out around feb/march and can definitely be hear when we get a warm day. things really kick up once it gets consistently warmer around the end of march. snakes will start coming out around april i think, and lizards too. your best chance to find the most of everything i would say is springtime and early summer, of course.

thanks for the info, I'd like to see anything from down there. I go about twice a year and usually get skunked or find DOR's. that really sucks. I'll look into the sand hills.
