Lost corn... Help!

freakingenius Feb 04, 2005 12:01 AM

I had hoped it would never happen, but while I was in class today and at work my little anery corn baby escaped. Apparently it's time for a stronger lid... anyway, I need suggestions on finding the escape artist. I've been checking along the walls of my room and under every available object with no sucess. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I have two cats so I am very afraid for my little guy. Thanks!

well you freakin genius (lol sorry couldnt resist), you should get yourself some clips. look up - corns love to climb. look in every box that it may get in, then look in every box and every crevice theres no way it could get into.

The actual lid is clipped down... he's still small, so I have him in one of those plastic things. He pushed open the small clear plastic flap on the top. Also clipped, but not as well thanks to my opening it and stuff. I've searched my whole room with no luck thus far. I dusted the floor around the walls and by the door openings with corn starch so at least maybe I can track his movement. I am afraid he might be in my printer... I keep the cage on top of my computer desk next to it. I've looked inside, but I can't see everything in it. *sigh* This really sucks.

ewww... those are what i think to be the most dangerous housing. you think they're secure... but those lids aren't ever. i actually took some plastic epoxy and glued the little lid to the top.

i'd look all around... he may just be lying under a piece of paper actually. i had an escapee one time and it turned out she was lying underneath a small cd case next to my tv.

but just an fyi on the location of the cage - there are so many vibrations on that computer desk you're probably stressing the hell out of him and it may turn into feeding problems or something similar.

The more you move things around the more you will scare them. Just go slowly and thoroughly in every little spot (ones you can think of and ones you don't think the snake could get into). You can try putting out traps (2 liter bottle with the top portion inverted to make a funnel and a pinky in the back). We tried this when two of ours went missing. Ended up finding one as we came home one night in the middle of the floor. Best bet might be to sit in there at night with the lights off or on dim with a red bulb flashlight (harder for snakes to see) and just listen and try to follow the noise. Good luck!

I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but what's the probability of him heading down my steps? I saw no sign of motion last night in my room, but as long as he's contained up there he's safe. My kitties roam the rest of my house and I'm sure something that looks like a moving piece of string would be way too tempting for them...

I looked around again this morning, still no luck. I'm hoping he's in my closet somewhere. I put his heat pad and a towel and a hide box in there. My closet is chilly and maybe he'll migrate to the warmth. Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer for my little guy. I want to find him.

Try to luer her out the snake with mice. I also read in a book once that you can lower the house temp. and in the room that the snake escaped you lay a wad of towels on the ground anp put a heatlamp over the towels. The snake might be attracted to the heat.

After I came home from work I saw that a hide box had been moved on the floor, and I saw some squiggles in the corn starch I had scattered around the walls. I found the little guy crawling around the base of my papassan chair. Thanks again to all those who offered suggestions and help. He's safe and sound back in his little aquarium, with a book on top of the little plastic door. As soon as I get my next paycheck I think I'll invest in a true aquarium with a better lid. I don't want to go through that again. Thanks again everyone!!!

I'm so happy you found him. I've had some really bad experiences losing snakes. I had three that were let out by some cruel friends of my old roommate. One was found, the other two were not It was just horrible. I moved shortly after.
