Sexing African Bullfrogs/Pyxies ?

ravenspirit Feb 04, 2005 05:26 AM

This is Oogie-Boogie, my African Bullfrog/Pyxie Frog.

I assue he/she is the "giant" kind, rather then the dwarf, as thats what he/she was sold to me as. Oogie is about 4.5 inches from snout to vent. How do you sex these frogs ?

I have heard about they yellow under the throat method, and while he/she has some yellowish orange around the arms(that seems to be getting brighter with age) I do not see extensive areas of color. Does this only apper when they are adults ?

Thanks for any help in advance -

Not sure about sex, but I can assure you that you have the giant(P. adspersus) version of the pixie. Good luck

How old is he/she?

I don't really know. I was told at the petshop that they had him/her in for around 3 to 4 months and he/she had grown alot.

I guess if it was a wee juvenile when they got it in I would guestimate Oogie at arond 6 months or so.

He/she certianly has a voracious appetite!

I agree, If your frog is 4.5 inches long and he is only 6 months of age, he's got to be a male, the picture also looks to be like a male.
