Trying again! This should hopefully be a pic of My Vivarium - what you think? Its got 2 levels which the gex love - a bottom "barron" level and an upper "exotic" level :0)

This is my oldest female Trinity - i think she is very dark in colour - could this be a sign of her age?

Nice set up, i just hope your geckos dont accidently eat a couple of those rocks.

geckomama Feb 04, 2005 12:18 PM

It seems to me that ground bedding is hazardous. It could cause
impaction if gecko accidentaly eats it.
I should change it. Fine sand will do nicely .

i disagree with the sand. ive herd some horrible storys(dont wanna start another war i know people have ben sucsesfule with sand). if u get a natural looking tile it will look great and be safe for ur gecko. just my 2 cents

Prime just a qusetion how old are you?

Any how back to the topic, play sand would be fine (not calcium) if you are meeting all their needs properly, it sorta seems like you are because they aren't eating the gravel type stuff. But sand is more safe because just a little bit won't kill it but just a little bit of that gravel will.

im in college. and as far as my spellin and gramer go well i blame that on the public school system where i was raised. not my falt.

And yes i did not take into concider that his geckos were adults. and i gess sand is alright with them. whats wrong with Cali sand? is it worse then play?

Well it can't be digested and messes up their stomach acid so it wont be digested, it also clumps together when wet and will impact your leo quickly.

geckomama Feb 06, 2005 02:06 PM

Yes it does ! So happened with my gecko girl . Calsi Sand impacted her and she died . The sand doesn't dissolvet with paraffin oil. It was like been glued together. Playground sand is safer. It remain loose and you can give your gecko paraffin oil and save him/her.

Trinity's just that color, its not her age. I like it, I have one like her, she looks more "wild-type". And my opinion on the substrate you have on the ground floor is, the pieces look big enough to not cause a problem, plus you have adult leos there and it is fine to have adult leos on sand, rocks, etc. Your setup is cool and looks like a TON of fun for your leos.

LeoGeoGuy Feb 04, 2005 05:50 PM

Ummm leaftail just so you know nothing is "to big not to cause problems" unless it can't fit in its mouth. I hope what you ment was those rocks are big enough to cause serious problems if eaten, or so we hope thats what you ment....

leaftail Feb 04, 2005 11:48 PM

I said what I meant.

No substrate is 100% safe and I include paper towels. Someday some suicidally dumb leo is going to eat a bunch of his paper towels, become impacted and die. Life is uncertain. And please let us not start up the Sand Wars again. Let's just agree to disagree.

LeoGeoGuy Feb 05, 2005 07:34 AM

Actually tile, limolium, and slate are all 100% safe.
