Preparing chicken for a BTS?

AlteredMind99 Feb 04, 2005 07:51 AM

I was told, and have read in several places that BTS's can eat lean chicken. I am wondering though, how do you prepare the chicken for them? I assume they do not eat it raw, what method of cooking is best to use?

and also, what other kinds of meat are ok for BTS's to eat?

thank you very much

I just toss some chicken breasts (skinless) in the crockpot - or you can boil it. I also feed boiled lean ground turkey, lean ground beef, cooked shredded beef, turkey breasts, snails, silkworms, waxworms and butterworms. In a pinch I serve a high quality low fat canned dog/cat food.

How long? Temp? Directions Please in detail. LOL
I don't cook for myself ever. . . but I will for my pets.

I prepare all of my blueys food in batches enough for about 3 days worth.

Chicken breasts I toss in the crockpot on low (with water to cover) for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours. Or take chicken breasts, turkey breasts, or ground meats and cover in a pot with water and boil on stove (about Medium to Medium high) until it's done - for the ground beef until it's no longer pink, no more blood, etc. It's a little harder to tell on ground turkey, etc. But you can always cut a piece, look at it, taste it, etc to get a good idea. I love the chicken breasts in the crockpost because it gets sooooo tender and easy to shredd - you can also do a roast, etc in the crockpot.

I have a similar question around this topic. can you feed meats such as chiken turkey, beef, etc. to schnieders? The only two things I really feed him right now are live crickets and grapes (he loooooves grapes!) and maybe ocasional pieces of seedless watermelon.

Tigergenesis Feb 09, 2005 07:25 PM

I don't know much about schneiders, but a quick search on the Internet reveals that their diet should include much more than just crickets and grapes - needing a bigger variety of insects, fruits and greens. Canned monitor/tegu food is also mentioned.

Agreed, they definitely need a much more varied diet. Not to mention crickets are pretty much worthless nutrition wise...
